AirVault runs on your NAS or any Docker host. Your iPhone backs up to it over Wi-Fi with no computer in between, and every backup is kept as a snapshot you can restore later.
docker compose up -d // what is AirVault
AirVault creates restorable system backups — not just copies of photos and documents. It runs on the NAS where the backups are stored, and the iPhone connects to it directly over Wi-Fi. No desktop app, no computer in the middle, no cloud.
The phone connects to the server itself. Pair once, then backups run over the home network.
Backups accumulate instead of replacing each other. A phone can be restored to any snapshot in the history.
The whole history sits on your disks. No accounts, no subscription, nothing leaves the house.
// features
AirVault turns a Synology, Unraid, TrueNAS or plain Docker box into the place iPhones back up to. Everything below happens in one browser tab, served from the server itself.
The iPhone connects to AirVault over Wi-Fi and backs up to the server directly. There is no desktop app and no computer to keep awake — the server is the only other machine involved.
AirVault creates a full, restorable iPhone backup with settings, messages, app data, photos and other supported device data. It is not a photo uploader or document sync.
After the first full backup, later runs transfer only what changed. Every completed run remains a restorable snapshot, so you can recover the iPhone from any point in its backup history.
With backup encryption on, the backup includes passwords, Health data and call history — and none of it is readable without your password.
AirVault checks every file in every snapshot and verifies the data again during restore. Corrupted or incomplete data is detected instead of being written back to the iPhone.
